Regateiro

Since a young age, Manuel Gomes Regateiro Júnior was an outcast, a free thinker in an enclosed village that felt too small for his dreams. Although loved and cared for, he needed to see the World, the World needed him.... In France, he learned how to care for the vineyard and winemaking (knowledge that he would pass on to his family). Feeling always the calling to come back to his Bairrada homeland, in Aguada de Cima, he returned, and, once more, he embraced his land.

The clay soils that once were a child's playground were now the source to his artisanal production of ceramic tiles; the fields of vineyards that once were everlasting, fantastic labyrinths, were now brought to life in his family wines.

The time passed, and the feeling of restlessness and the desire to meet the World stayed, the dream to see beyond lasted longer. So he sailed to Brazil, looking forward to new adventures, with him he took the wine of Bairrada to tell the people about his beloved homeland.

The family name Regateiro was lost in the following generations, though not the appreciation for our origins and the region of Bairrada.

Nowadays, reviving  those memories and traditions, Casimiro Gomes continues his grandfather's legacy, caring for his vineyards and focused on expressing the identity of the Bairrada wines like he remembers from his youth, from its bold sparkling wines to its 100% Baga wines, with the help of Sónia Martins, the winemaker.
