Vinho Verde

The Region of Vinho Verde, demarcated in 1908, extends throughout the north-west of Portugal in the area traditionally known as Entre-Douro-e-Minho. Orografically the region presents itself as "a vast amphitheatre that, from the sea, gradually rises inland" (by Amorim Girão), exposing the whole area of vineyard to the influence of the Atlantic Ocean. This maritime influence, granite soils, mild climate and high precipitation, translate into freshness, lightness, elegance, fruity and floral notes that are characteristic of the Vinho Verde.
