Douro

The oldest demarcated region in the world, the Douro, became famous due to the production of a fortified wine with unique characteristics - Port wine. From 1756, the year of the geographical demarcation, the Douro region began to produce distinct wines: those destined to Port Wine; and table wines. These distinct wines contributed to the transformation of the landscape into a beautiful valley sculpted in shale terraces, which is currently classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

Serra do Morão separates this region from the Atlantic coast and its climate. This mountain range protects the Douro from the rain-laden winds that blow from the Atlantic. The Douro region has a climate known for its hot, dry summers, and very harsh winters.

The majority of the best Douro vineyards are planted on the steep slopes beside the Douro River. The demarcated region is divided into three sub-regions: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo, and Douro Superior. We at Lusovini have been focused mainly on the Cima Corgo sub-region, which, in our opinion, combines the freshness of the Baixo Corgo with the concentration of the Douro Superior.
